When you open a torrent file, it will open in your Torrent client (uTorrent is recommended, linked earlier in this thread by Callistra) and show you some basic file information. You can find torrent files via numerous sources - I linked to quite a few sites that offer legal torrents above, but that is by no means a complete list (and I don't think it'd be possible to offer a complete list anyway as there are so many different uses for torrents out there). They contain information about the file itself as well as information about the trackers - a computer that keeps track of who has the file and connects peers (downloaders) to seeds (people who have the file). Users who advocate theft of intellectual property can and will be warned/banned, as bookworm_duo has. I do ask that you note that you are using it for legal purposes and/or do not state your are using it for illegal purposes. If you need help getting torrents working or opening torrent files, or want to know more about how torrents work, you may post here. Please, no more "OMG torrents are illegal!!111one" stuff - and certainly no more "To heck with illegal or legal, I'll do what I want" type stuff. I'm going to reopen this thread as, well, A) bookworm_duo is now banned for his behavior on this and other threads, advocating illegal downloads and B) I see no reason we can't have a discussion of how to use Torrents. Treeag - But discussing them is against this site's rules and always has been - mainly because they are most often used for piracy - but also because they often cause issues with the game (like in TS2, not allowing you to build anything) or with your computer (like lovely viruses that come along with them). I'm currently getting it on uTorrent at about 150 kbps. I found it in looking for legal torrents and it looks really cool. Yeah, there's no legal torrents out there.Īside: That last link, Planeshift, is for a free MMORPG. Sorry for every bit of inchoerency(or whatever it's spelled) in my post i don't know what's the big deal with these kind of stuff. i will get probabbly banned because a mod will think that a paragraph reveals too much, and again i will have to bother another forum where discussions like this are allowed. give me example of a LEGAL torrent site and i will stop bothering you(if i bother you if not, i will give you a cookie)īut i think i got emotionally too far with this post by telling a bit of my life story. you have no idea what you can do with torrents(well, maybe not). at least 40 people know now because of me of torrentsĪnd callistra, i see the difference, but the same LEGAL program(µtorrent) can be used both for legal(downloading something FREE that required the instalation of a program(steam) liek audiosurf, and a few other things) and ilegal(anything else) means. i first used µtorrent because my friend asked me how to use it and then, after wikiing a bit, i began my (illegal) downloading spree. Knowing what torrents are gives you the power to download ANYTHING you want. ****z(sorry, censored) are distributed and mostly downloaded through torrents because download limits of sharing sites Torrents CAN BE legal, but most of the torrents i downloaded were ilegal. You're acting like it's a drug banned by some governments.Īre you sure you know what a torrent is and what their purpose is? You're coming across to me as being misinformed.
